Having tried everything under the sun for years, I finally found that glycolic acid is the only thing that saved me from my hormonal acne woes. I’ve been using it for over two years now and my skin have done a complete 180. You’d never guess that less than 10 years ago my brother called me crater face because it was THAT bad.
If you have any kind of inflammatory acne—think red, puss-filled bumps—these stickers are life changing. Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers ($8, amazon.com) are thick, gel covers that work like a sponge, absorbing oil and puss. You can actually see it working because the translucent patch turns white when the dressing needs to be changed. Bonus: It’ll keep you from touching your zit, and you can even apply makeup over it, too.
Kojic acid is a more recent remedy for treating pigment problems and age spots. First developed in 1989, kojic acid has a similar effect as hydroquinone. Kojic acid is made from a fungus, and studies have shown that it is effective at lightening skin.
Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment ($38, sephora.com) contains activated charcoal (duh) that absorbs all kinds of impurities and clears out clogged pores. It also contains willowherb, an ultra-soothing ingredient to reduce any post-treatment inflammation. The spatula for application that comes with it makes the whole treatment feel, well, pretty luxurious. Keep a jar of it for a rainy spa day at home.
The removal of makeup is very important as it can lead to clogged pores; break out, pimples and uneven skin tone. Oily skin people should specially make it a habit to remove the make-up before going to bed. It removes thoroughly all kinds of make- up.
Blackheads are normal on the nose and are due to genetics. The beauty industry wanted to sell more products, so they declared blackheads on the nose to be abnormal and ugly. They will come back even if you do remove them, as they are part of the skin. Keep your face clean, eat a healthy diet for and exercise regularly for the best results and give it time, as most skin eruptions pass.
Relax with a clay mask to reduce oil. Clay masks are great for people with oily skin. Smear them on your face after cleansing, and leave them on for fifteen to twenty minutes before rinsing off. Apply moisturizer afterwards.
The ingredients used work well in enhancing* collagen production, which works well in boosting skin tightness and elasticity. This helps in the reduction* of wrinkles and fine lines while preventing skin sagging.
This anti-aging product wasn’t as bionic as we thought, but it worked well. This is a worthy retinol cream that is effective, but does not contain the ingredients spoken about. Without these, results are slow and not less visible. Sunday Riley and the other brands are all trustworthy and can be depended on for several products.*
My Experience: Even if you complete the most basic skin-care routine, moisturizer should be worn day and night. I switched over to Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb ($38, sephora.com) for this particular experiment. I looked forward to applying this cream every night. It felt like it was doing its duty, sealing in all the other skin care while providing hydration. Waking up ever morning, my skin didn’t feel greasy or sticky.
Speaking of hydration, Choi smears on a “decent amount” of moisturizer after toning. Her two ride-or-die products are Cetaphil’s Moisturizing Cream and Wonjin Effects’s Water Bomb Cream. (The latter is a better option if you have oily skin, FYI.)
Take a moment out of your day to enjoy a steaming mug of white or green tea, both of which can do wonders for your complexion. In addition to adding a blast of hydration to your skin cells, tea may also assist with antiaging.
It’s simple: Moisturize and repair. You need a rich night cream with peptides, a hydrating prescription retinoid, or retinol cream or lotion. If the retinoid causes dryness, mix it with a moisturizer or a night cream, or use it only three times a week. You can apply retinoid cream up to your lower eyelids. Be sure to use the night cream on your neck and the retinoid on your chest and the backs of your hands.
“Toners should be done after cleansing and before putting on anything else,” Mattioli says. The traditional application method is to saturate a cotton pad and pass it over your face. But, as Mattioli points out, “You end up losing a lot of product.”
The amount of time it may take to see a change in your skin all depends on which issue you’re attempting to treat or look you’re trying to achieve, according to Women’s Health. Based on the consultation of New York dermatologist Dr. Jennifer MacGregor, they recommend committing “anywhere from six to 12 weeks” to see if a new routine or treatment works.
Somehow, the idea that moisturizers are a no-no for pimple-prone skin started circulating many years back, and now a lot of people with acne avoid them like the plague. In reality, moisturizers are an essential part of the acne skin care routine. The acne treatment your dermatologist prescribed or recommended may contain drying ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, which can suck the moisture out of your skin and leave it looking red and irritated. A good moisturizer will keep the water in your skin and help avoid unsightly drying and peeling.

Consider this your rule of thumb, according to Dr. Nazarian: “Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply at least every two hours. Chemical sunscreens should be applied directly to clean skin, while physical blockers can be applied last in your skin-care regimen, but before makeup is applied. About two tablespoons of sunscreen are appropriate to cover your face and exposed areas of your body; within that amount, use a nickel-size dollop to cover your face.”
Exfoliating also promotes a radiant appearance by helping your skin unclog pores and remove tanning. Olive seed oil is considered to be great ingredient for it. It deeply moisturises the skin and improves hydration level of the skin. It helps in eliminating dead skin cells and refines the texture of the skin.
Retinol Serum: Rouleau recommends incorporating an over-the-counter retinol serum into your regimen five nights a week. “I prefer serums over creams because they have smaller molecules and can better penetrate the skin,” she says. Some of our favorite retinol serums for dry skin include Peter Thomas Roth’s Retinol Fusion PM ($65) and Chantecaille’s Retinol Intense Cream ($110).
We get it: Ruling the world from one’s iPhone leaves little time for diligent skin care. But “by your mid-20s, you really need to start paying attention,” says Kristina Holey, a holistic facialist in San Francisco. Breakouts, brown spots, and dry patches are likely on your mind. But using too many products can irk skin and clog pores. Here, experts highlight the decade’s most common challenges — and everything you need to overcome them.
MURAD VS ZENMED Have you ever suffered from acne so severe that you hated getting out of home? I have. And I was all of 15 when the nightmare unfurled. Pepperoni face, the moon, pudding, pizza face, crater face, I had nicknames galore. And I had learnt (or forced myself) to take them with a Read More …
