Boost your sunscreen by popping a pomegranate-extract supplement (up to 60 mg; at health-food stores). It can enhance skin’s sun-protective properties by 25 percent, says L.A. dermatologist Howard Murad.
Natural beauty is appreciated the world over. There are different aspects linked with being beautiful. One such link is people who are blessed with beautiful skin. Most people firmly believe that beauty is skin deep. Yes, literally too!
“When applied topically, specific peptides can reduce the appearance of lines and crow’s-feet. My favorite non-needle approach is painless, affordable, and cumulative. Try Environ Ionzyme Focus Frown Serum ($174).” — Francesca Fusco, MD, dermatologist
Contrary to the marketing promises of “blemish banishers” and “zit zappers,” immediate results are not the trademark of acne treatments — a frustrating truth to anyone suffering through a breakout. And while pimples are personal (your stress-induced spots will look and act differently than your best friend’s breakout), the best acne treatments will include a regimen of products to hit all of acne’s root causes.
At a fraction of the price of any of the other over-the-counter wrinkle creams in this category, but just as popular with users, Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Creme (Est. $10 for 1.7 oz.) is also praised by Begoun for its “well-documented antioxidants in a light yet creamy base formula.” However, she gives it only two stars because of its packaging — it comes in jar form only — downsides that we discuss above. However, users on the Beautypedia site disagree, giving it a perfect 5-star rating. Eucerin products are perennially popular, and if you store and use this properly, it could be a great budget choice for everyday skin care, especially if your skin is very sensitive or very dry. Eucerin Q10 does not contain sunscreen, so is best used under an SPF containing moisturizer.
Why She Loves It: This retinol keeps things simple. “It contains both retinol and exfoliating lactic acid, and the pump dispenses just the just the right amount of the stuff,” says Williams. “I love pairing this with SkinBetter Science’s Alto defense serum because it keeps skin care streamlined.”

What’s Going On: If it’s big, red, and painful, you’re probably experiencing cystic acne, one of the more severe types. “Cystic pimples are caused by genetics and hormonal stimulation of oil glands,” says Zeichner. Not only are they large, but they’re also notoriously tough to treat. They often recur in the same place, because even if you manage to get rid of one, it can keep filling up with oil again and again, like an immortal pimple.
Prevents Growth Of Facial Hair: South Indian women, in earlier days, used to apply a fine paste of turmeric powder mixed with water. They did this daily while bathing to prevent the growth of facial hair.
Choose a foaming cleanser. Foaming cleansers work the best for oily skin as they remove oil gently. You only need a small amount for your whole face. Foaming cleansers come in gel, pump, and cream form.
Cucumbers also help to manage oily skin due to their cooling, astringent, and soothing properties. Higher vitamin and mineral content, magnesium, and potassium, are good for oily skin. Rub a slice of cucumber before going to bed. Wash it in the morning with warm water. Alternatively, make a mixture of cucumber juice and lime juice and apply it on the face and hands. This remedy can also be used to lighten freckles and reduce sunburn.
Not really. A simple washcloth really does most of the work. But who needs a spa appointment when the latest skin-care gadgets — and one surprisingly analog standby — bring the same technology to your bathroom?
Use brightening products if you have dull skin. Dull skin is a common side effect of dry or mature skin. If you are looking for more of a glow, try to find products that contain Vitamin C, arbutin, niacinamide, and mulberry extract. These products are more effective when used together, so feel free to mix and match.
Exfoliates Skin: Milk can also be used as an exfoliating agent to get rid of dead skin cells. Lactic acid present in milk has natural exfoliating properties. Dissolve a pinch of salt in boiling water. Add 3 cups of milk to it, keeping aside the cream. Add about ½ a cup of lukewarm water and allow the mixture to stand for 20 minutes. Apply on your body and scrub off the dead skills with the help of a loofah. You can use this milk scrub twice a week for good results.
LED light therapy: Many devices combine multiple colored lights in one wand, so you can customize your session. Switch on red to stimulate collagen and elastin production while decreasing inflammation; blue to eliminate acne-causing bacteria and redness; and yellow to even out your tone. If you have both pimples and blackheads, this Clearasil product may be a good choice. It contains both benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria in pimples and glycolic acid to break up the “glue” that holds dead skin cells tight around blackheads. The claim made in advertising that it can get rid of pimples in four hours or less may be an overstatement, but you definitely should see changes in 24 hours. Don’t expect full resolution of blemishes in less than a week, however. Like the other popular Clearasil products, it is too strong to use all over your face.
It is a myth that oily skin need not be hydrated. Understand that Oil is not moisture. Keep your skin hydrated by consuming lots of water. Use a good moisturizer, the one which matches your oily skin, so that your skin continues to be hydrated.
It’s simple: Moisturize and repair. You need a rich night cream with peptides, a hydrating prescription retinoid, or retinol cream or lotion. If the retinoid causes dryness, mix it with a moisturizer or a night cream, or use it only three times a week. You can apply retinoid cream up to your lower eyelids. Be sure to use the night cream on your neck and the retinoid on your chest and the backs of your hands.
Your sensitive skin may be due to an allergy (such as a rash from fragrance ingredients.) Or your skin may be irritated (for instance, if acne treatment products like benzoyl peroxide or glycolic acid gave you a rash or chapped your skin.)
It also contains powerful moisturizing ingredients to nourish the skin. Most feedback and testimonials from customers are positive saying it really works but there is not much information on the product availability.
Don’t: Neglect the basics. Make Sudarshan Kriya your beauty mantra. Yes, it’s that easy. Just breathing right could rid you of spots and pimples. Nidhi Gureja, Art of Living, says “Sudarshan Kriya is a breathing technique which incorporates specific natural rhythms of the breath that harmonize the body, mind and emotions. This helps releasing accumulated stresses, and each individual’s experience is different.”
AHAs save the day by dissolving lipids, the adhesive that clings to old cells. This exfoliation process allows old cells to be sloughed away and alerts our bodies to make new cells as a replacement, resulting in fresher, younger-looking skin. There are many types of AHAs nature, but glycolic acid and lactic acid have the ability to penetrate skin, so those are the two we targeted to find the best wrinkle cream.
Not every wrinkle-filler is right for every type of wrinkle. The least risks and best results come from using the right one correctly. That’s why you should only have fillers injected by a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with ongoing, special training.
Impatience for acne to be better right now usually results in less-than-healthy habits. Your pimples need TLC too. That 2013 study on acne vulgaris found that, in an attempt to dry out acne lesions, patients often use too many products or apply excessive amounts to problem areas, resulting in further irritation and overdrying the skin. Vigorous scrubbing and using harsh exfoliants (remember that St. Ives Apricot Scrub we were all crazy about in the early 2000s?) can make acne worse by rupturing whiteheads and blackheads, and turning them into painful red ones. And remember: No matter how satisfying it is, picking and popping your zits will also increase their inflammation and opportunity for infection. Resist!
The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology states that salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are by far the most common acne ingredients and they’re effective in double-blind studies of patients with mild-to-moderately severe acne. We looked for kits that included at least one ingredient targeting each camp: the comedones and the pimples.
All wrinkle fillers should be done in a medical setting with sterile instruments. Treatments done in homes, hotels, spas, or resorts are not being done in medical environments, regardless of who is doing them.
Notably, The Ordinary is the only one of our finalists to have two types of retinoids on its ingredient list: a retinol and a retinoate. This means that it may be a little stronger than our other picks. And, in fact, it was the only formula where our testers noticed a light burning sensation after application. It’s not unusual for retinoids to cause stinging, itching, or tenderness, and it’s usually a sign to cut back on your use: Only apply the product once every two or three days while your skin adjusts, and monitor your reaction over the course of a few weeks. If your skin continues to react poorly, take it as a sign to choose a gentler formula or consult with your dermatologist for other options.
To give dry skin healthy, natural oil, Dr. Shamban recommends a weekly 15-minute mask of mashed avocado. Or once a week massage a tablespoon of olive oil into your face in lieu of your usual night cream—but skip it if you’re acne-prone.
The goal of any skin-care routine is to tune up your complexion so it’s functioning at its best, and also troubleshoot or target any areas you want to work on. “Beauty routines are an opportunity to notice changes within yourself,” says the San Francisco skin-care specialist Kristina Holey. As your skin needs shifts with age, so will your products. Still, she adds, “it’s not about creating perfection.” Allow these three steps to become your daily ritual that fortifies your skin and grounds your day.
Among us natural skincare enthusiasts, there are two main criteria we check when evaluating a new beauty product: efficacy and purity. As S.W. Basics founder Adina Grigore once told us, “I’m a huge believer in the cliché ‘less is more,’ especially when it comes to skin.”
